Congratulations - you've finally gotten everything you own around the wreckage of College Avenue and into your dorm. You've finally had the overnight-guest talk with your roommate. You've found your classes, bought your books and are off to a running start. Hopefully.

Now that all that's behind you, we'd like to welcome you to a new year of The Carolinian, UNCG's student newspaper. Students have turned to The Carolinian for campus news, sports, opinions and entertainment since 1919- and this year we're continuing and improving upon the tradition.

Our new, slicker look comes courtesy of our Production Manager, Kevin Norris. Kevin is a senior Broadcasting and Cinema major who spent the summer toiling to make us look good. Kevin has been with the paper for two years, as a photographer and contributor to our Arts and Entertainment section before becoming production manager last semester.

In our news section this week you can get the scoop on construction - what's being done and how close they are to finishing. You can also read how students and staff coped with the chaos of move-in. Back at the helm of the news desk is Will Ayers, a senior English major who spent the summer bumming around Europe after studying last semester in Hull, England. In his spare time he penned a few witty columns for Greensboro's News and Record and Raleigh's News and Observer. Will has been on staff for two years, as a reporter, columnist and news editor.

This issue our Arts and Entertainment section is zeroing in on The Blue Martini, a student-penned play on-stage this week at the Brown Theater on Tate Street. Heading the A&E department this semester is John Russell, a senior Women and Gender Studies major who spent the summer lounging on the beach and planning the last year of his controversial but always popular sex column, Neurotica. John has been with the paper since his freshman year, as a columnist and A&E contributor.

We're proud to announce that after a number of years missing-in-action, The Carolinian will once again have a sports section. That miracle is being accomplished by Kelly Snow, a senior English major who spent part of his summer writing sports for the Durham Herald-Sun. Kelly has been with the paper since last year, when he almost single handedly revived the Carolinian's sports coverage.

Trying to keep all the plates spinning is Joe Killian, our Managing Editor. Joe is a senior Political Science major who spent his summer writing news for The Cape Cod Times in Hyannis, Mass. Joe's been with the paper since his freshman year; writing and editing news, contributing to A&E and offering his weekly column, Out of My Head, before putting in a year as Executive Editor.

Keeping everyone in line this year is Executive Editor Valerie Marino, a senior Broadcasting and Cinema major who spent her summer writing for The Cary News in Cary, N.C. Valerie has been with the paper since her sophomore year, writing A&E, news and taking pictures before becoming Executive Editor last year.

That's our editorial staff - just some of the by-lines you'll be seeing throughout the year. We're always looking for new writers, photographers, cartoonists and production people. There are going to be a lot of graduations on our staff this year, so if you're interested in coming aboard, give us a ring at 334-5752 or visit www.carolinianonline.com.
